MUENSTER — When Muenster’s Logan Hofmann was drafted last week by Major League Baseball’s St. Louis Cardinals, he thought his dad was pulling his leg.

EAST CENTRAL — Humboldt won three medals; Nipawin, Middle Lake and Naicam two medals; and Melfort, Lake Lenore, Viscount and Hudson Bay one medal at the high school track provincials. The provincials were held in Moose Jaw June 7 and 8.

HUMBOLDT — Curtis Toneff said as an 18-year-old rookie playing in Humboldt for the Battlefords North Stars, he was maybe a bit intimidated by the Elgar Petersen Arena.

The local disc golf scene is revving up again. The Co-op Trilogy Challenge took place at Centennial Park on June 2. Gratton said participants came from various points around the province.

Not long ago the News-Optimist ran a story about Wade Favel, a young soccer player from Poundmaker Cree Nation who was in a tournament in Saskatoon. The story focused on how the sport of soccer has made a positive influence on Wade’s life.

Submitted Andrew Pyle and Zack Wells have been playing JPII Crusader football throughout high school. Following graduation from Grade 12 at John Paul II Collegiate, they’ll be joining the Saskatoon Hilltops.

EAST CENTRAL — The three local Junior A teams made selections for their franchises’ futures in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s annual Bantam Draft last week.

EAST CENTRAL — Tisdale’s Nicholas Andrusiak was surprised to be the second overall pick in last week’s Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Bantam Draft.

MELFORT — Three members of last season’s Melfort Mustangs team will be playing elsewhere next winter. Trades announced on June 4 see forward Jake Misskey, defenceman Alex Rondeau, and goaltender Noah Giesbrecht depart.

TISDALE — The Tisdale Elementary School archery team received a bronze in provincials, with three of their students going on to nationals and one bringing home first place.
