MELFORT — Three members of last season’s Melfort Mustangs team will be playing elsewhere next winter.

Trades announced on June 4 see forward Jake Misskey, defenceman Alex Rondeau, and goaltender Noah Giesbrecht depart. All three helped the Mustangs make it to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League finals last season. In a statement, the Mustangs thanked all three for their contributions and wished them all the best with their new teams.

Misskey, a hometown product, asked to continue his Junior A career elsewhere. The Mustangs swapped the 19-year-old to the Weyburn Red Wings for the rights to 2000-born defenceman Christian Reimer. Rondeau played in the Western Hockey League last season for the Swift Current Broncos. The 19-year-old defenceman from Regina had a goal, seven points, and 24 penalty minutes in 53 games.

Misskey played two years for Melfort. Last season he recorded three assists in 49 regular season games.

Giesbrecht has been returned to the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. This completes the futures conditions of the deal made between the two clubs at the Jan. 10 deadline. Giesbrecht played only 10 regular season games for the Mustangs, but in the playoffs formed a dangerous duo with Shawn Parkinson to backstop the team to the SJHL finals. A Â鶹ÊÓƵ Surrey, B.C. product, the 20-year-old had a 2.98 goals against average and a .921 save percentage in 13 postseason contests.

Rondeau leaves the Mustangs for the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Whitecourt Wolverines. The move completes the conditions of a futures deal made last year. Hailing from Drummondville, Que., the now 20-year-old had six goals, 21 points and 118 penalty minutes in 58 games in his first SJHL season.
