St. Michael jr. high students build quinzees in Jubilee Park

Students in Grades 7-9 from St. Michael School built quinzees, or snow shelters, in Jubilee Park on Friday, as part of their "Tiger Time Out" fun activity once a month. Quinzees are built by first building a mound of snow, then hollowing it out so people can go inside and be out of the winter elements, such as when winter camping.

The Weyburn Co-operative Playschool's families had some fun on the dance floor on Wednesday evening, as they had a Valentine's Family Dance with DJ Randy Bakaluk providing the music. There were snacks, colourful lights, balloons, and lots of fun dances for the kids to enjoy for the Valentine-themed dance, held in the Upper Grace Hall at Grace United Church.

Over 50 excited children in the two Grade 3 classrooms at St. Michael School put together their own projects based on their science unit study on magnetism and static electricity. On Jan. 31, each classroom visited the other to see what project each student did to demonstrate what magnetism is and can do.

Weyburn Soccer hosts 300 athletes, coaches for Winter Showcase

This photo gallery shows action from a U13 girls and a U13 boys soccer game, at the Weyburn Soccer Association's Winter Soccer Showcase, hosted from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon at Weyburn's Credit Union Spark Centre. Over 300 soccer players, coaches and managers on 32 teams came from Swift Current, Moose Jaw and Yorkton to play in the tournament, with Weyburn teams in most age divisions. The teams ranged from U9 up to U17-19.

The Weyburn Comp Eagles junior girls basketball cohosted a basketball tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Eagle gym. In this gallery of photos they face off against another Weyburn team, the St. Michael Tigers, and the Eagles came away with the win by the score of 34-12 on Friday evening.

The Weyburn Comp Eagles Junior boys basketball team hosted a two-day basketball tournament at the Eagle gym, along with the junior girls team. The photos in this gallery show their game versus the Stoughton Bulldogs on Friday, which they won by a score of 65-37. A separate photo gallery will feature the WCS junior girls versus the St. Michael Tigers.

The Grades 7-9 students from St. Michael School took part in a half-day of fun winter activities for their monthly "Tiger Time Out" on Friday afternoon. They had the choice to participate in skating at the outdoor rink at CU Spark Centre, Crokicurl at the Weyburn Leisure Centre, or snowshoeing through Jubilee Park.

St. Michael Grade 2 class hosts a science showcase

The Grade 2 class at St. Michael School held a science showcase on Thursday, with classes coming in to see what the students did for their projects on animals. These photos show a visit from the Grade 1 class. The Grade 2 class has been studying animals in their science unit since September, and the end assignment was to pick an animal, research it and prepare a report and poster on the animal.

Tours begin of Weyburn's James Weir People's Choice Exhibition

Curator Regan Lanning has begun setting up tours for the James Weir People's Choice Exhibition, with school tours set to begin in February. She gave a tour to a group of friends on Jan. 24, explaining some of the background information of the works entered in this year's contest in the Weyburn Art Gallery. Voting is open until March 17.
