REGINA — Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is resisting an Opposition call to bring in the military to combat wildfires that have forced thousands from their homes.

The city is seeking donations for nearly 200 wildfire evacuees who arrived with few or no personal belongings.

The SPSA is in daily contact with Public Safety Canada in determining what resources may be needed from the federal government and will request resources from the federal government, if needed, to support efforts.

Statement from City of Regina says they are providing access for evacuees to transit, local amenities and leisure activities.

A key transport link for the north has partially reopened as firefighters continue to battle flames in the area.

Kamsack’s Fire Chief says crews are trained and on standby as wildfire risks remain high despite green grass and cooler weather.

Former La Ronge resident and MLA April ChiefCalf says she knows the trauma evacuees face and is calling for support across the province.

"A worker from the rescue drove the dogs nine hours to safety. Because of her selflessness, Sailor and Bru, Callie, and three little pups are all safe in our shelter tonight."

Swaths of smoke from wildfires that have torched buildings and forced thousands from their homes in Western Canada have drifted as far as Newfoundland and Labrador in the east and Texas in the south.
