KAMSACK — Kamsack’s Fire Chief Ken Thompson, says, “At this time we do not have any members fighting fires up north, but if we get a request, a few members are willing to go. We trained for wildfires in April.”
Thompson says since the last report, they have responded to five calls for vegetation fires in the area. Three of their callouts were false alarms.
“On May 26, we had SaskEnergy do a gas safety presentation. June 2, we had our monthly meeting. On June 9 we will be doing water drafting and using portable water tanks,” adds the Kamsack fire chief.
This division of the community’s protective services is hosting a pancake breakfast on June 22 at the sports grounds, in conjunction with the town carnival. This will be the last opportunity to purchase tickets for the KFD fundraiser, with the draw taking place on June 23. First prize is $3,000 in gas/groceries.
Chief Thompson also affirms, “We will also be practising search and rescue at the old Crow Stand building. Some members will participate in the grad parade on June 27. As well, on July 1, the chief and a public works member will be putting on a fireworks display in the evening. Members will be standing by at the event should we need them.”
Kamsack Fire Department will have members on weekend duty for July and August to ensure there is response coverage in the area.
“It is very dry out there even with the green grass, wildfires will burn. Please be careful. Let us be mindful of our neighbours at this critical time. From our fire family to your family, have a wonderful summer and please stay safe in whatever you do,” says Thompson on behalf of the Kamsack Fire Department.
