Lightning lights up Weyburn area's skies

Thunderstorms were very active in the Weyburn region late on Wednesday night, but none actually came through the city; these lightning bolts were seen north and east of the city.

A summer barbecue, complete with live music, was held for the participants of Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop and guests from Estevan Diversified Services on Wednesday. Music was provided by the trio of Mark Girardin, Ken Hill and Johnny Knox, who performed old-time rock and country favourites as the clients enjoyed barbecued hot dogs.

The Souris River Rodeo was back as part of the Weyburn Fair on Friday night and Saturday, for the first time since 2019, with a full slate of cowboys and cowgirls taking part in a full range of events, from bareback and saddle bronc to team roping, barrel-racing, roping break-away, steer wrestling and bull-riding.

Canada Day ended with a fireworks show put on by the City of Weyburn at the fairgrounds, with every spare area for parking taken up by thousands of vehicles parking to watch. Many parked in the fairgrounds area, but there were lines of vehicles parked along Highway 39 as well.

Children decorated bikes in red and white for the Canada Day bike parade at Nickle Lake Regional Park on Friday. There were also craft activities, a market, and entertainment in the beer gardens, along with the Souris River Smoke-off competition, going Friday and Saturday.

Four acts rock Weyburn for Young Fellows centennial concert

Weyburn's Jubilee Park was rockin' on Thursday night for the Young Fellows centennial concert, featuring headliners Tenille Arts, the Hunter Brothers, and openers Brayden King and Dan Cugnet. The concert was the culmination of months of organizing work, with an army of volunteers from throughout the community helping to ensure the event went off smoothly.
