CARROT RIVER — Carrot River’s new fire truck, a custom made $485,000 Rosenbauer FX GM pumper, has arrived and is expected to take minutes off the crew’s preparation time for fire calls.

For May 18, the provincial government is reporting 5 new COVID cases in the Central East zone and 4 new cases in the North East zone.

EAST CENTRAL — The province’s fire weather index has most of the province below the Saskatchewan River ranked extreme. Many local municipalities have declared fire bans.

For May 17, the provincial government is reporting 21 new COVID cases in the Central East zone and 1 new case in the North East zone.

HUMBOLDT — The first in a series of events to educate Humboldt businesses and the general public about taking action on reconciling with First Nations will take place next week.

NIPAWIN — For the first time in several years, the Town of Nipawin is conducting a spring clean-up program, albeit with more limitations on what can be disposed of.

HUMBOLDT — A 16-year-old male youth has been charged with failing to report an accident after police received reports of an abandoned car located on Humboldt’s Main Street near the Canada Post building.

CARROT RIVER — Melfort product Rob Holoien is back behind the bench for the Carrot River Outback Thunder. He previously served as an assistant coach for the Junior B Prairie Hockey League team in 2016-18.

HUMBOLDT — Another case of COVID-19 has been detected at Humboldt’s St. Augustine School Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools said they were informed of the case by health officials May 15. The division was informed of a previous case May 12.

With the legislative session over, the governing Saskatchewan Party said they’ve charted a course out the pandemic, while the New Democrats said the government’s handling of COVID-19 has hurt the province.
