EAST CENTRAL — The North East School Division (NESD) passed their 2021-22 budget, which is planned to draw approximately $1.3 million out of their $12.1 million reserves to balance the budget.

HUMBOLDT — Track athletes from schools all over the Horizon Central Athletic Association gathered at Glenn Hall Park to do something they’ve haven’t been able to do in a long time – compete. A set of three mini-meets were held on June 14, 15 and 16.

There are three walk-in vaccine clinics planed for Saturday. In Humboldt, there will be a first dose only Moderna vaccine walk-in clinic on June 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Uniplex's Jubilee Hall.

Some areas of the region reported enough rainfall from June 8 to 14 to allow for runoff to occur, while others indicated what they received was hardly enough to counter the wind and heat during the week.

HUMBOLDT — Rayce Ramsay is looking forward to being back behind the pipes for the Humboldt Broncos. The Saskatoon-born goaltender suited up for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League club in 2018-19.

HUMBOLDT — A project to repair a part of the Uniplex’s roof above an electrical tunnel has become larger than expected. The roof experienced water leaks for several years. During the 2021 budget process, the city set aside $30,000 for the repairs.

HUMBOLDT — Council has voted to ratify a new collective bargaining agreement with its unionized workers that includes wage increases in 2021 and 2022.

NIPAWIN — The Boreal Area Regional Waste Authority Inc. (BARWA) landfill is back to normal operations two days after a fire ignited in one of its cells. The cause of the fire, which began on June 15, is not known at this time.

NIPAWIN — Shirley Phillips says she is "shocked" to see a Nipawin bridge spanning decades of local history indefinitely closed to traffic.

The province has reported a single death in the Central East zone. Provincial health officials said June 15 the person was in the 70 to 79 age group. The Central East zone includes Humboldt, Yorkton and Melville.
