The Assiniboia Fairgrounds Ball Diamonds was given a facelift in the 'Spruce Up Your Story' initiative.

Hundreds of toys were donated by residents and by the Canadian Tire store at the Weyburn Fire Brigade's Toy Drive on Saturday, and they were all delivered to the Family Place on Monday, filling up one end of a large play room. "It's hard to put into words how much this means to the families," said Dawn Gutzke, executive director for the Family Place.

Midale's Plus One Club hosted this year's Santa Parade which went through the town on Saturday, including down Main Street as well as going by Mainprize Manor. Many families were out to see the parade, and children were prepared for the candies with bags ready to collect their share. A 50-50 raffle was also held in support of the club.

The Weyburn Fire Brigade held a "Fill the Fire Truck" toy drive for the Family Place on Saturday at the Canadian Tire store, with the added bonus of a brigade member filling in for Santa Claus for photos inside. The fire truck cab was filled, along with at least two carts, with hundreds of toys donated for the families served by the Family Place.

Around 30 exhibitors filled tables in Weyburn's Cugnet Centre for the "Gifted" Winter Art Market on Saturday, with works ranging from paintings and photographs to quilting, woodworking, stone jewelry, ceramic jewelry, fibre art and pottery, and many other varieties of works besides. The day-long market was presented by the Weyburn Arts Council and the Weyburn Art Gallery.

The Weyburn Comp Eagles senior girls volleyball team took on the Estevan Elecs as the first of four opponents in the SHSAA regionals on Saturday, beating them in the best-of-three sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-14. The Eagles also won their matches over Yorkton and Swift Current, but lost to the Balgonie Greenall Griffins. Both the Eagles and the Griffins ended with the identical 3-1 record.

Service was held outdoors for the second straight year

Founding members of Doc Walker, Chris Thorsteinson and Dave Wasyliw, put on an acoustic show on Monday night at the Cugnet Centre to open the new season for the Weyburn Concert Series. They played a number of their hits along with a few covers as they shared stories behind their songs and from past tours.
