The Weyburn Comprehensive School put on their fowl supper for the first time since 2019, with parents, staff and students volunteering to make sure the supper went smoothly, including providing entertainment with choirs and bands throughout the evening.

Weyburn audiences treated to East Coast sounds of Barra MacNeils

The pride of Cape Breton Island, the Barra MacNeils, brought their national tour of their Christmas show to Weyburn on Monday, with a two-and-a-half hour performance on the Cugnet Centre stage. The show was a part of the Weyburn Concert Series, and featured a variety of music, from the rollicking "Christmas in Killarney" to the soaring vocals of "Ave Maria" and "O Holy Night", plus lots of stories about growing up and enjoying Christmas in Cape Breton.

The Weyburn U18 Barber Motors Wings hosted the Estevan Bears on Saturday evening at Crescent Point Place, and were doubled by a score of 6-3. The teams started out fairly evenly, ending the first period tied 1-1.

PD day provides opportunities for fun in Weyburn

Professional Development day, or PD day, gives students a day off school, like on Friday in Weyburn and across the southeast. There were opportunities for the children to have some fun, including an all-day PD day camp at the Credit Union Spark Centre, where they could do arts, crafts and have fun on Mainil Field. In addition, the City of Weyburn offered an afternoon of free skating with the Weyburn Gold Wings at the Tom Zandee Sports Arena.

Making Christmas ornaments, cookies at Weyburn's Festival of Trees

Young children had the opportunity to come out to see the Festival of Trees for Weyburn's Family Place, and to make Christmas ornaments, crafts and decorate Christmas cookies on Tuesday afternoon. There were goodies to snack on also while looking at all the decorated Christmas trees, which will be sold by online auction on Thursday, Nov. 24. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting the Tree Festival on Thursday at Great Plains Ford, from 1-2:30 p.m., for stories and photos.

Colours, lights of Christmas highlight Weyburn's Festival of Trees

The Festival of Trees fundraiser for Weyburn's Family Place resource centre is on display now at Great Plains Ford, along with several dozen items for the silent auction. The silent auction will close for bids by Wednesday evening, Nov. 23, and the trees will be auctioned on Nov. 24, all online, with all proceeds going to the Family Place as one of its major annual fundraisers.

Photos with Santa Claus (aka Randy Bakaluk), with Photography by Sherry Lynn, were available on Saturday at Pet Valu, and they raised $1,403 which will all be donated to the Weyburn Humane Society shelter. Photos were by donation, with many people bringing in their pets for photos, or photos with their children.

Legacy Park to present Willy Wonka Jr. stage musical

Students from Grades 4-6 will be on stage singing, dancing and telling the story of "Willy Wonka" Junior in a stage musical production, directed by music teacher Holly Butz. The musical follows the story of Charlie along with others who won a tour of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. The musical will be performed on Nov. 16 and 17 at 6:30 p.m., in the school gym.

The WCS Eagles senior boys finished in second place behind Swift Current, and they will now head to Swift Current for provincials
