Meet-and-greet held at Weyburn Legion for veterans, police officers

A meet-and-greet event was hosted by the Weyburn Legion on Wednesday morning as part of National Legion Week. Veterans along with current and past members of the Weyburn Police Service were on hand to meet with members of the public, and displays of memorabilia were available for viewing.

Several members of the Sooline Cruisers did a Sunday afternoon tour of the long-term care homes in Weyburn. They started at Tatagwa View, followed by the Weyburn Special Care Home, Mid-Town Care Home, and the homes on the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Hill, including Hill Top Manor and Parkway Lodge.

Representatives of several cultures brought tasty treats from their home countries under one roof in Weyburn, as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµeast Newcomer Services and SWIS hosted a "Taste of the Nations" on Friday evening at McKenna Hall. There were food samples from a wide range of countries and cultures, including Nigeria, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Ukraine, Ecuador, Colombia, Spain and Canada. The event was held as part of "Welcoming Week" in Weyburn for all newcomers and their families.

The Prairie Animal Health Clinic held an open house on Wednesday evening, and raised funds for Friends of Isaiah fundraiser, a campaign to raise funds for the Evans family to enable them to buy a medical van. There was a petting zoo, games and a barbecue on the clinic site, along with bouncy houses.

Weyburn's Toy Run turns into food drive for Salvation Army

Several dozen motorcyclists took part in the Weyburn Independent Riders' annual Toy Run on Saturday, which became a food drive for the Salvation Army as they are greatly in need of food donations at this time. Prior to the run, the group had 1,172 pounds of food donated from two days at the Wal-Mart store; many cash donations and food donations were given at the run's conclusion in River Park, after driving throughout the city, including through downtown.

Large harvest crew takes off crops in Weyburn area

A large harvest crew from Dale Mainil Farms of Weyburn were busy taking off a wheat crop near the city on Thursday and Friday. Dale Mainil estimated on Thursday they were about 85 per cent done their harvest operations for 2023. In the Weyburn crop district, harvest is about 54 per cent completed, and in the Radville-Lake Alma district producers are 77 per cent done harvest.

A step back in time for threshing at Griffin farm

Glen and Suzanne Stomp of Griffin once again hosted an old-time threshing bee on Sunday at their farm, complete with two hay racks picking up stooks of wheat to be put through an antique threshing machine. A pair of Percheron horses pulled one of the racks. The farm also features a mini-heritage village with displays in buildings, and food was available on site.
