Youth arrested for shooting people with pellet gun in Estevan

ESTEVAN — A young person has been charged with multiple counts of assault in Estevan following incidents on May 24.

The Estevan Police Service received multiple reports of a male youth shooting people with a pellet gun and threating to shoot others at a local park. The youth was arrested without incident, charged with multiple counts of assault and remanded in custody to be taken in front of a judge in Estevan Provincial Court May 26.

No further details were immediately released. His name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police received a separate report of two youths being shot with an airsoft rifle by someone driving by in a vehicle. One of the youths was struck but the EPS said no injuries occurred. The matter remains under investigation.

Two separate reports of males laying unresponsive in areas within the downtown core were received. In both cases, EPS members attended and located the individuals, who were found to be grossly intoxicated. Both males were released to sober adults who agreed to care for them.

A report came in of loud noises similar to gun shots in central Estevan. Members patrolled the area but were unable to find the source of the noises, and no suspicious activity was noted at the time.

A domestic disturbance was reported in a south Estevan area. Members attended and mediated a solution which resulted in one of the parties leaving the residence for the night.

A traffic stop resulted in a male failing a roadside screening device test for alcohol. The driver was transported to the police station to obtain samples of his breath, but he refused to comply and was subsequently charged with impaired driving and refusal to provide a breath sample. He was lodged in cells to be released when sober and will attend court at a future time to speak to the charges. His vehicle was impounded and his licence was suspended as a result of the investigation.

An individual was reported to be breaching the conditions of his release by having contact with someone he is prohibited from communicating with. The matter remains under investigation.

Members attended to an east Estevan tow business storage yard May 23 on a report of a male who entered despite being refused access. He was spoken to by police and the EPS said a misunderstanding was resolved. He was warned of his actions and advised to follow proper processes in the future.

EPS members responded to a two-vehicle collision at an intersection in the east end of Estevan. The collision was determined to be non-reportable to police and assistance was provided to the drivers to exchange information for insurance purposes.

A possible hit-and-run collision was reported in downtown Estevan. A vehicle backing out of a parking stall struck another vehicle as it passed by, causing minor damage and then leaving the scene. The driver was followed by a witness and spoken to when he stopped. He stated that he didn’t know he had struck a vehicle and information was exchanged for insurance purposes.

A report of a male walking in the dark along Highway 39 was received. Members attended but were unable to locate the individual.

A complaint of an individual going through vehicles in south-central Estevan was received. Members patrolled the area immediately following the report but were unable to locate the suspect. Anyone who may have been a victim in this occurrence is requested to contact EPS and provide a statement outlining the items taken from the vehicle.

A local business reported a female refusing to leave after being asked. Members attended and informed her that she was not wanted in the business and she left without incident.

New women’s clothing with tags were found at a parking lot in central Estevan. If someone is missing items such as these as a result of a possible online order that hasn’t arrived or any other reason, call the EPS to identify them for a return.

EPS members arrested a 24-year old Estevan man for breaching his release order by entering a licensed premise contrary to the court-ordered conditions. The individual was processed and released to appear in Estevan Provincial Court at a later date.

Police attended to Highway 47 south of the city to a report of a male laying in the ditch. Members located the individual and determined he was intoxicated. He was transported to his residence and released to the care of a sober person.

Police were called to a Trojan subdivision residence to a report of an unwanted guest refusing to leave. Upon members arriving on scene, the male left without incident.

A report came in of a female causing a disturbance at a local park. EPS members patrolled the area but were unable to locate the female.

A noisy party at a residence in the north end of the city was reported during night shift. Members attended and the occupants were warned under the noise bylaw.
