ESTEVAN — Members of the Estevan Police Service responded to 38 calls for service over the weekend of May 9 to 11, addressing a range of incidents across the city.

In addition to a homicide investigation and other previously reported matters, officers responded to several other incidents, including a residential break and enter. A forensic identification officer processed the scene for evidence, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police were also called to assist with a fire at a local residence. Officers helped evacuate the building while Estevan Fire Rescue brought the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

An intoxicated man was arrested at a local business after becoming combative with officers. He was lodged in cells until sober and is expected to appear before a judge to face a charge of resisting arrest.

Officers also responded to a report of an assault at a residence. A man was arrested, charged with assault and later released under conditions.

A suspected drug overdose at a local motel prompted a joint response from police and emergency medical services. The individual was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for further treatment.

Likely due to the warmer weather, police received multiple complaints about suspicious individuals and intoxicated persons throughout the city. All reports were investigated.

On May 11, officers received a report of a dog running at large. The animal was located and taken to the Estevan Humane Society. Charges under the City of Estevan Animal Control Bylaw are pending.

Police also responded to a semi-truck blocking a lane on 4th Street in the downtown area. Traffic control was provided while the truck was moved. The driver was ticketed for failing to follow the posted truck route.

In the Royal Heights area, a report was received about an intoxicated woman in a grassy area behind a condominium complex. Officers confirmed her well-being and issued a ticket for consuming alcohol in public.

A report of a stolen golf cart was also investigated. Police determined it was a prank by a friend of the owner. The cart was returned, and no charges were laid.
