Already the birds are bunching up and the hummingbirds are drinking heavily at the feeders in preparation for the trip south. Like it or not, fall is here.

As I wander around Meota it is evident the month of August is over. In other months of the year I don't always realize the month is ending, since there is not always some indicator that alerts me.

The second of the two farmer's markets scheduled to take place at Waseca Community Centre was held Aug. 27. The small number of vendors had a successful day again.

The last few days the air has had an "autumn" feel. The days are already much shorter, the birds are flocking and some have already gone. As one travels the area some fields have been swathed and the odd field has been combined.

Regular Maidstone Drop In Centre activities have been curtailed for the month of July and August. The July-August birthday supper was held Aug. 19. Some seniors arrived at 3 p.m.

Weed control officer John Hammond for the RM of Glenside has made his annual trip through the area to control the hard-to-kill weed patches. He had the past pest control officer, Jim Carr, with him to show where to go to those patches.

A week of Vacation Bible School was held at the Maidstone Baptist Church from Aug. 8 to 12. Classes where from 9:30 to 11:30a.m. each day for the 30 children who attended. Members of the church were assisted by two students from Saskatoon.

Sorry folks, but I took some time for me this summer. I went camping with my family in early July. Each summer Mom and Dad, my brothers and sister and their families and my family get together.

In every community there are those who move away leaving behind fading memories and, while some never look back, others seek out their roots and make stops at the places they once called home.
