It鈥檚 Canada Day. It would seem a day dedicated to celebrating your country would mean more than it seems to here.

Welcome to Week CLXIII of 鈥楩ishing Parkland Shorelines鈥�. Like most of us I am a novice fisherman, loving to fish, but far from an expert.

Governments get elected, but it may be more accurate to say that governments get unelected. In other words, one big problem for an incumbent government is that it is already being judged on its track record.

I鈥檝e had this idea for a book rattling around in my skull for a couple of decades now. Basically, it would be an exploration of human culture from an evolutionary standpoint.

It鈥檚 been a few weeks since I鈥檝e written a Crime Diary entry. Then again, it鈥檚 been a while since I鈥檝e written much of anything because of the Jaycee Mildenberger murder trial taking place at Yorkton鈥檚 Court of Queen鈥檚 Bench.

Earth has existed for 4.5 billion years, humans for somewhere around 150,000. But in my brief lifetime 鈥� less than 80 years 鈥� human populations have exploded exponentially, from two billion to more than seven billion.

Happy Canada Day! Whatever your day entails, please pause for a moment in gratitude for this amazing country that is our home. We are truly blessed to live here.

To my knowledge, unlike our neighbor to the 麻豆视频, Canada has no official separation of church and state. But that didn鈥檛 stop the eyebrows raised in a few quarters when in 2014 our Prime Minister mentioned God in his Canada Day tweet. Twice.
