Unfortunately (for some), I only write a column once a month. I usually have so many topics on the go, it's hard to pick just one. With the Christmas season upon us, I have to go with "the season of giving" as my monthly venture.

As is becoming a tradition, the columns over Christmas and New Year's weeks look back at some of the funniest quips from the past 12 months. Here's Part I, the best from January through June. R.J. Currie of sportsdeke.

Maybe there is a lot being done, but from an outsider looking in, it appears that nobody is trying to make any changes to limit the shootings that take place far too frequently south of the border.

It was recently suggested by a reader that I should be less suspicious and nicer. Well, I generally try to be a nice person, notwithstanding what you might hear from my co-workers or in-laws.

As Christmas draws near my thoughts wander to Christmas's past and those people who made the day so very special. The years pass quickly and many of those people are gone now, though they are still with us in our memories and hearts.

The Editor: Like Albert Kienle of Regina and Dave Piper of Midale (Leader-Post Dec. 1), I am totally opposed to modernizing our liquor regulations. Making booze more available can benefit only those who sell it.

How's this for a learning adventure? A recent report in a national publication provided information about an interesting project developed by a teacher of 10 and 11-year-old students.

There's an old adage which says to speed up, sometimes you need to slow down. That seems to be the motto of Estevan city council right now.

If you thought the office party was a time to relax, then you're wrong. It's a time to be vigilant, paranoid and in bed respectably by 10:30. It's the holiday season, so everybody is in the midst of coping with the office Christmas party.

There's a new social media on the block and I don't like it. Well, I shouldn't say new, since it's been around for long enough that Facebook has bought it. But it's new to me and so, so foreign.
