Each year, the City of Estevan asks local residents to share their thoughts on the budget. And most years, the city receives little feedback.

We all know that not all surprises are pleasant; indeed, some are unpleasant and others can be downright tragic. In contrast to those, I want to share some of the lovely surprises I鈥檝e experienced recently.

Cheers to Dr. Khalid Sheikh and the operating room nurses, and the nurses on the obstetrics/surgical unit at St. Joseph鈥檚 Hospital. They eased the nerves of a person undergoing surgery and the operation couldn鈥檛 have gone better.

When our oldest daughter got married this past summer, we were fortunate to have lots of family and friends come and spend that day with us. Some even got to hang around for a while afterwards.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wasn鈥檛 in Estevan on Jan. 10 and 11, but you could forgive people for thinking he was here. After all, the Estevan area was a focal point for the prime minister鈥檚 visit to Regina.
