Along with celebrating 150 years of Canadian Confederation this year, farm producers are also marking 150 years of the agriculture industry in Canada. Saskatchewan has been the breadbasket of the world for over a century.

A total of 8,591 head of cattle were sold in Saskatchewan for the week ending September 15, up from 5,568 head sold the previous week, and up slightly from 8,548 head the same week a year ago.

Rain showers caused some delays with harvest operations in the southeast region, but the harvest progressed some to 86 per cent complete, up from 76 per cent the week before, according to Sask. Agriculture鈥檚 crop report.

The Assiniboia Livestock Auction held a pre-sorted all breeds sale for calves and yearlings on September 12. Steer calves and yearlings sold well above prices reached at this time last year. Heifer yearling prices were also higher than last year.

Producers have made significant harvest progress, due in large part to the warm and dry weather, Saskatchewan Agriculture reported for the week ending September 11.

Producers are hard at work bringing in the 2017 harvest. The crop yields this year are extremely variable depending on the field and location.
