The active drilling rig count is down in mid-September, with 41 rigs working in Saskatchewan on Sept 17, as reported by sister publication Rig Locator (riglocator.ca).

Harvest has paused for lack of mature crops, with many producers waiting for crops to mature further.

Estevan – The first indication that the oil downturn was starting to turn around was in the service rig sector. As early as the first quarter of 2017, service rigs started advertising for new workers, and several reported shortages.

Estevan – Saskatchewan’s active drilling rig count in 2018 has, at almost all points except the month of June, been better than the same corresponding times in 2017 and markedly better than 2016.

Due to the recent hot and dry weather, harvest is proceeding rapidly across the province.

Combines and swathers have begun the harvest operations in the southeast region, with Sask. Agriculture reporting three per cent of the crop combined and four per cent in swaths for the week ending Aug. 6.
