Where is God when someone you love is suffering

A young woman went to her doctor complaining of pain. She touched her knee and yelled, "Ow, that hurts." She touched her cheek and yelled, "Ouch!" Then she touched her earlobe, "Ow, even THAT hurts", she cried.

Guts to Gardens

Jimmy was a fisherman, the son of a fisherman and the product of a culture built on fishing. Fishing was all he knew and he was good at it. The only trouble was that Jimmy had a problem he couldn't overcome.

Cut the ropes!

Did I happen to mention that fishing from the dock is one thing but fishing for the big stuff means cutting loose from the wharf and heading out to open water? As obvious as it sounds, it takes a deliberate act to untie the ropes and face the waves.

One of the worn-out jokes around here goes like this: Why did the (man/woman/preacher/whoever you want to pinpoint) go fishing? Answer: "Just for the halibut".

Riding out the storm

This winter we've been pounded with rain and wind. Just this morning, in fact, I got up to find the neighbours "tent garage" in our back yard.
