In I818, composer, organist Franz Xaver Gruber and lyricist, Joseph Mohr, together produced what is probably one of the world鈥檚 most beloved Christmas carols.

The second half of 2017 generated lots of unique and wonderful stories about people in the region and their experiences, and some great stories on events that drew lots of attention.

The second half of the year generated many interesting stories in the community, with community events, meetings and celebrations, as well as a few arrests.

The past year saw some significant stories in the Estevan area that shaped not only the community today, but its future direction as well. These are our choices as the top five stories of the year.

The Prairie Women on Snowmobiles (PWOS) organization has been raising money for breast cancer research and equipment, through its mission snowmobiles rides, since its formation in 2002.

The Warm Welcome Kitchen has been very well supported since it started serving hot meals to the public. The kitchen opened for the first time on Nov. 14, with a commitment to be open for two months.

Clinton Messer and Tracy Beaulieu were out one day, looking for stray dogs at a local dump in the Carlyle area, and they anticipated on saving a few canines, but instead ended up saving a piece of history.
