The RM of Benson recently made a big donation to the MRI campaign.

ESTEVAN — The campaign to bring MRI services to Estevan has now cleared the $6 million mark.

The St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation posted on its Facebook page July 7 that the RM of Benson had donated $154,000 to the fundraising initiative, christened Together we Will – MRI for Estevan. The money is in addition to $100,000 already contributed by the RM last year.

"We are beyond grateful to the RM of Benson for their incredible support of our MRI fundraising campaign," the foundation said in the Facebook post.

"This remarkable achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of the ratepayers of Benson, who rose to the challenge and gave generously, knowing their contributions would be matched by the RM. Together, you’ve made an extraordinary impact on the future of healthcare in our region," the foundation added later.

"Thank you for believing in this project and for showing just how powerful a community can be when it comes together."

As of the morning of July 8, the campaign stands at $6,108,494, which is 94 per cent of the goal of $6.5 million. The fundraising total includes the $2 million that Elaine Walkom donated in memory of her late husband Grant that launched the effort.

Foundation executive director Lori Gervais said the southeast is an "incredibly generous" area. Donations are coming in, she said, and the foundation will continue to promote the generosity of donors and progress on the project.
