ESTEVAN — The effort to bring an MRI scanner to St. Joseph's Hospital in Estevan is now at 90 per cent of its $6.5 million goal, after a trio of large donations that totalled $175,000.
It started when Estevan Motors presented a $50,000 cheque to the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation for the MRI campaign. Then Western Fiberglass Inc. came through with another $50,000 contribution. Finally, Estevan resident Larry Preddy, a long-time pharmacist in the community, made a $75,000 contribution.
The donations were announced on the foundation's Facebook page on June 10, 11 and 12, respectively.
The fundraising total now stands at $5,836,655, which is roughly 90 per cent of the goal to bring MRI services to southeast Saskatchewan. The campaign started with Elaine Walkom's contribution of $2 million in memory of her husband Grant, and it was given the green light to officially proceed in March 2024. The $5.8 million-plus has been raised in 15 months.
