ESTEVAN — The man accused in a homicide in Estevan in May has been granted bail.
Evan Dennis Isbister was released with conditions last week, several days after he had a show-cause hearing in Estevan Court of King's Bench on June 20. He is charged with second-degree murder in the May 10 death of Todd Isbister.
The evidence, debates and other information provided at the bail hearing are protected by a publication ban.
Evan Dennis Isbister was scheduled to appear in Estevan Provincial Court on June 30, but according to Kathryn Gillis – who was appearing on behalf of Isbister's attorney Aleida Oberholzer – there were issues with returning some documents after Isbister was released from the correctional centre.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 12 in Estevan Provincial Court.
Background: In a news release, the Estevan Police Service said that at approximately 8:46 p.m. on May 10, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1400-block of First Street. The caller reported an assault was taking place.
When the EPS arrived, they said officers located three men in the residence. The EPS said two were arrested without incident and taken to the police station. Estevan EMS responded to the scene to care for the victim and transported him to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment. He died from his injuries a short time later.
According to the EPS, one of the arrested men was cleared of any wrongdoing and was subsequently released from custody. The other man arrested was Evan Isbister.
Detectives with the EPS Criminal Investigations Division were assigned to lead the investigation and have been supported by the EPS Forensic Identification Unit.
