PRINCE ALBERT - Second update, June 18, 2025: The Prince Albert Police Service Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has made two arrests in relation to the September 2024 homicide of Darren Laviolette.
Darrenson Head, 19, was arrested on June 17, 2025, in Melfort with the assistance of Melfort RCMP, and 21-year-old Hayden Joseyounen was arrested on the same date at a residence in Prince Albert.
Both men have been charged with second-degree murder and appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 18.
Update, Sept. 4, 2024: The Prince Albert Police Service are investigating the death of 22-year-old Darren Laviolette as a homicide after an autopsy was completed on Sept. 3, 2024.
Prince Albert Police Service responded with Parkland Ambulance to an unconscious and not breathing male just before 9 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2024, in the 1200 Block of 28th Street East. On arrival, the male was identified as Darren Laviolette and pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Prince Albert Police Service Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Identification Section continue to investigate.
Updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
Police are looking to speak with anyone who was with or spoke with Darren Laviolette between the night of Aug. 31, 2024, and 3 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2024, or has information on where he was or who he was with.

Original post: Sept. 1, 2024: On Sept. 1, 2024, just before 9 a.m., Prince Albert Police Service responded to the 1200 Block of 28th Street East to assist Parkland Ambulance who was responding to a male who was not conscious and not breathing. On arrival, police and paramedics located a 22-year-old male who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Prince Albert Police Service Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Identification Section are working with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Office to determine the cause of the man’s death.
An autopsy is scheduled for Sept. 3, 2024, in Saskatoon.
