When former Humboldt resident William Dutton decided to return to speed skating, he set a goal of winning a World Cup medal. Mission accomplished – and then some.

Each day Humboldt Broncos head coach Darcy Haugan sees his team putting in the effort. Unfortunately he has not lately witnessed his team being rewarded in the win column for that effort.

On Tuesday night the AAA Battlefords Stars took on the second place Prince Albert Mintos . The last time these two faced off it was the Mintos dominating on home ice in a 7-2 game.

"We were a team that no one could take for granted, a team that never gave up."

Igor Leonenko and Kendall Fransoo are both walking away with weekly awards. The forward from Belarus was honoured with the SJHL player of the week, while Fransoo was named defenceman of the week.

"Quietly, he puts in extra minutes on the track, or extra time in the gym."

The North Stars took on the Klippers for the fourth time this season since being knocked out of the playoffs by them last year. The black and white have had some success, sporting a perfect 3-0 record, outscoring them by double, 14-7.

Last time the AAA Stars faced off against the Argos , it was Notre Dame outplaying the black and white en route to a 6-2 win.

Your Battlefords North Stars travelled to Humboldt for an interdivision bout against the last place Broncos . Coming into tonight’s tilt, the black and white were undefeated in three games while outscoring the Broncos 16-2 this year.

Connor Sych, Layne Young and Reed Delainey have had incredible seasons thus far and have been selected to tryout for team Canada West. Sych has 8 goals and 14 assists throughout the 2015-16 campaign, leading all defencemen in the league.
