Police say the man was in possession of disassembled scissors, a steak knife. and a utility knife with an extra blade.

If found guilty, 25-year-old Marly Dansereau could face up to five years in prison.

From Jan. 1 to Sept. 31, crime statistics show there were 417 total crimes against the person compared to 359 incidents during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 58 incidents — a jump of 16.2 per cent — year-over-year.

Merlyn Hodgson 67, will spend the next 36 months in a federal penitentiary, must provide a DNA sample and is prohibited for life from owning or possessing firearms or weapons. 

The assault occurred in the maximum-security unit at Saskatchewan Penitentiary on Thursday.

The suspected theft of fuel was reported to the RCMP and charges have been laid.

Canora/Sturgis RCMP also dealt with a highway truck fire, a leaf dumping dispute, an assault, and an attempted liquor theft.

Saskatoon police have released an image of a suspect in the hopes the public can help identify him.
