Welcome to Week CLXXIX of ‘Fishing Parkland Shorelines’. Like most of us I am a novice fisherman, loving to fish, but far from an expert.

So, this is the moment I am supposed to be gracious. I will get there, I promise, but excuse me for a moment while I pause to bask in the glorious recognition that I will never again have to call Stephen Harper prime minister of Canada.

When my grandparents arrived from Japan in the early 1900s, Canada was far less tolerant than it is today. Women and minorities couldn’t vote, nor could Indigenous people who had lived here from time immemorial.
