Stackhouse Soapbox - Understanding political hypocrisy

One of the things I鈥檝e struggled to wrap my head around when it comes to politics is trying to figure out how come people like Justin Trudeau can鈥檛 see their hypocrisy. Well, I鈥檝e given up on it. I think they know full well how hypocritical they are and I think they know the rest of us can see it, but they don鈥檛 care whether or not 鈥榳hat I say and what I do鈥 happen to be complete opposites. I mean, if you haven鈥檛 jumped off the Trudeau train by now, will you ever? Is there anything he could do that would make you change your mind? Let鈥檚 look at the Canada Summer Jobs Program, which saw a massive spike in applications denied from 200 last year to over 1600 this year because many groups refused to check the Liberals鈥 attestation box that requires you to swear your support for female reproductive rights. Meanwhile, the government had no problem giving money to Dogwood, a British Columbia, advocacy group that has a core intention of 鈥榮topping the Kinder Morgan pipeline tanker project鈥. This is a project, the federal government has approved. Now, they are funding groups that want to stop it. If that鈥檚 not bad enough, Trudeau explains why it鈥檚 okay by saying, 鈥淲e believe in free speech and advocacy.鈥 Oh really. What happened to free speech when it comes to female reproductive rights? Trudeau doesn鈥檛 stop there. 鈥淲e will not remove funding from advocacy organizations because we, as a government, happen to disagree with them.鈥 It鈥檚 funny if it wasn鈥檛 so tragic. An Alberta group called Mustard Seed Street Ministry, which is dedicated to helping the homeless, didn鈥檛 qualify for funding this year because, even though their work has nothing to do with opposing abortion, the personal beliefs of those in charge of the organization don鈥檛 align with the attestation box. It doesn鈥檛 mean they are going to cause problems for people seeking an abortion, they just don鈥檛 agree with it. Yet, the Liberals disqualify this particular charity and give money to another group (Dogwood) that is hell bent on killing jobs and stopping a government approved project. Hypocrisy at its finest and Trudeau has to know this. He just doesn鈥檛 care because his supporters will always be his supporters no matter what.

In Ontario, media is working overtime to try and get the NDP voted into provincial power. The latest was a fake poll that had the party up by 10% over the Doug Ford Conservatives. After a day and a half, the poll was revealed to be fake. What is also fake is the character sketch of Ford that has him as a Donald Trump clone. Nothing could be further from the truth, yet there are many who buy it because if the media says so, it must be true. I did see a hilarious meme on the NDP the other day that said they have a new McDonald鈥檚 Value Meal. It goes like this, 鈥極rder whatever you want and the guy behind you has to pay for it鈥. There was another one that had a picture of half a sign for NDP leader Andrea Horvath. The entire right hand side of the sign had been ripped off with a note that sad, 鈥業 took half of your sign because you had one and I didn鈥檛. I know you will understand.鈥 We laugh, but there鈥檚 a scary amount of people who think this is okay or they wouldn鈥檛 support political parties such as this.

In the United States, a 30-year-old man is suing his parents for the right to continue to live in their basement. You read that right. The story was talked about on Tucker Carlson鈥檚 show while he was interviewing Mike Rowe, a television personality who says it鈥檚 getting harder and harder to give away scholarship money because not as many students want to work in order to achieve the reward. Rowe also made quite a statement when it comes to safety. He says it鈥檚 no coincidence that most of the pedestrian accidents occur at intersections where there are all kinds of signs indicating that it鈥檚 alright to proceed and walk. We鈥檝e lost the ability to think for ourselves, we just obey the sign because 鈥榮afety first鈥. Rowe says safety shouldn鈥檛 be the priority. When you say 鈥榮afety first鈥, you are assuming someone else cares more about your well being than you do. The unintended consequence is not safety at all. He closed the interview by saying that when you get on an airplane, he鈥檇 like to hear the pilot get on the loud speaker and say, 鈥淪it back and relax because I love my own life and I鈥檓 going to get myself home in one piece, so don鈥檛 worry. You are in good hands.鈥

Nice person mentions this week: Chris Wentzell, Josh Garbutt, Dave Esslinger, Darren Wandy, Jesse Barfield, Steve Rogers, Dana Rathgeber, and Darlene Rutten.聽
