Irena Yannoulis, a Grade 3 student at Canora Junior Elementary School, enjoys helping people, according to CJES Principal Rod Steciuk.
On March 20 she was recognized as the winner of the Sasktel Pioneers essay contest where students submitted their stories about giving. Irena’s essay told the story of how she regularly found ways to help her elderly neighbour around the house.Â
For winning the contest Irena received a cheque for $200 from Bob Hume, Sasktel Pioneers Yorkton, to be awarded to her favourite cause. She chose the charity Filling the Gap as her way of helping the less fortunate. Hume also awarded her with The Giving Book, filled with other stories of giving as well as ideas and suggestions to assist readers in finding ways to help people around them.
