A reception was held at the Canora Composite School on February 17 to mark the opening of a new literacy room.

With the Good Spirit School Division having a focus on literacy, Katherine LeBlanc, the principal and Colin Knight, a teacher, in consultation with the students, decided to convert a former band room into the new literacy room, said Patti-Jo Donovan, a member of the School Community Council (SCC).

The group received donations from Richardson Pioneer and Crop Production Services as well as from the SCC, Donovan said.

This room is the school鈥檚 main literacy area, she said, describing the room as being a 鈥渧ery relaxing and quiet environment鈥 with couches, tables and computers.

The room also has some Chromebooks, which are a type of computer, she said.

鈥淲e at the school are still planning to raise more funds to equip the room,鈥 she said, adding that the committee in charge is still accepting donations for the room.

Persons wishing to make donations may contact the school.
