The Royal Canadian Legion likes to award young people for artistic and literary talent, according to Canora branch members Pat Thompson and Debbie Gabora.

The pair visited Canora Junior Elementary School on March 20 to give out local branch awards as part of the Legion’s literary and poster contest, which promotes remembrance of Canada’s military heritage. On this day all the awards handed out to CJES students were in the colour poster contest.

Sofia Tratch, Grade 4, won third place in the grades 4 to 6 group. Her sister, Olivia Tratch, Grade 1, took home second place in grades 1 to 3, while Walker Wolkowski won third place in the same group.

In addition to the colour poster category, the Legion also sponsors competitions in black and white posters, as well as in essay writing.
