A crew working on repairing the roof over the lobby and a mechanical room at the Canora Civic Centre is expected to be finished their work within about a week.

Inspections of the building in October confirmed the cause of multiple leaks which had saturated the R-10 insulation, said Aaron Herriges, Canora’s director of leisure services.

In consultation with a roof consultant, it was decided to replace the existing flat tar membrane roof with an engineered standing seam roof, Herriges explained. The gradually sloped metal framed structure is covered by 20-gauge sheet metal that has no visible seams or fasteners.

It is an engineered type sheet metal designed for large roof spans, he said. The metal will enclose insulation of an R-60 value, drastically reducing heat loss in the lobby.

Workmen from Contech General Contractors of Saskatoon, the same company which had worked on the roof of the Preeceville arena a couple of years ago, began working on the CVC roof on January 25, he said. The crew of between two to eight workmen, were expected to complete the job within a month of the start date.

It is expected the job will cost between $150,000 to $160,000.
