Saskatchewan鈥檚 month-to-month growth in the retail sector for June 2016 outpaced all other jurisdictions in Canada, according to figures released by Statistics Canada today.
Saskatchewan鈥檚 sales were more than $1.5 billion for the month, an increase of 2.1 per cent (seasonally-adjusted) over May 2016, easily the highest growth rate among the provinces.
鈥淥ne of the benchmarks of an economy is the state of retail sales, and this increase is a positive indicator of other factors such as consumer demand and confidence,鈥� Economy Minister Bill Boyd said.聽 鈥淲hen Saskatchewan businesses are seeing increased activity of this nature, it reflects well on the overall economic environment in communities across the province.鈥�
Nationally, month-over-month retail sales declined from May to June by an average of 0.1 per cent.聽 Retail sales in Saskatchewan for June 2016 increased 2.7 per cent (seasonally-adjusted) over June 2015, which was equal to the national average for that period.
