The Sunrise Health Region had announced effective June 1, acute care and emergency room services would be suspended at the Preeceville & District Health Centre.
Suann Laurent, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Sunrise Health Region told the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors last Wednesday the decision was made because there was a lack of physicians to cover the services.
The region has stated it is a temporary change which will be in effect until predictable, consistent and sustainable on-call coverage is secured.
鈥淲e鈥檙e trying to turn this around as quickly as we can,鈥� said Laurent.
The situation is 鈥渄ifficult for the community and everyone involved,鈥� she added.
Board interim chair Don Rae said 鈥渢he good thing is it slated to be just temporary 鈥� everyone is working to make it happen.鈥�
Preeceville currently has one physician and a nurse practitioner who will continue to provide clinic appointments at the primary health care clinic which is located in the Preeceville & District Health Centre.
鈥淭he situation is being monitored on a go forward basis,鈥� said Laurent,
In a release, the region states Preeceville continues to have around-the-clock emergency services provided by ambulance and paramedics and that the centre is not closing nor will there be any job losses as a result of this.
