The dress worn by the greatest sex symbol of all time when she met the 35th President of the United States was on display Yorkton on June 18. Hundreds of people flocked to see it.
Marilyn Monroe鈥檚 rhinestone-covered dress, made famous when she wore it during her recital of 鈥淗appy Birthday鈥 to John F. Kennedy, was at Save-On-Foods on Broadway St. E.
Yorkton was a stop in provincial tour of the iconic ensemble put on by Save-On-Foods and Ripley鈥檚 Entertainment.
鈥淸Jim Pattison], the owner of Ripley鈥檚 Entertainment [and Save-On-Foods] is a Saskatchewan native, so he wanted to tour it through his home province.鈥 said Heidi Ferriman, a spokesperson for Save-On-Foods.
Security and managers teemed through the building, standing close to the dress. You can鈥檛 blame them for being protective. The dress cost over $4 million at an auction.
The dress was positioned at the entrance of the store, sealed behind a glass case and propped up on a stand. A line stretched out to the door, full of people looking for a photo with the dress. After all these years, it sill managed to grab attention and drop jaws.
鈥淚t鈥檚 an honour to be here,鈥 said Gordon Mensch, who travelled from Langenburg. 鈥淚 can鈥檛 believe how thin she was.鈥
鈥淚 loved it,鈥 said Bernie Hourd. 鈥淚t鈥檚 gorgeous.鈥
Even workers supervising the dress were dazzled by it.
鈥淚t has been amazing,鈥 said Ferriman. 鈥淣othing less than magical.鈥
The tour will conclude next week in Winnipeg.
