CultureFest kicks off

Each Thursday of the month features a different culture at the focus.

YORKTON — CultureFest kicked off its month-long celebration of culture, community and connection in downtown Yorkton June 5 at City Centre Park.

Each Thursday of the month features a different culture at the focus, with June 5th being that of Indigenous Peoples' culture.

"Today we launched the downtown CultureFest at City Centre Park here in Yorkton," said Caitlyn Kitzan, Executive Director of the Yorkton Business Improvement District.

Thursday's festivities included a grand entry, a welcoming from the Chief of Cote First Nation, dancers, singers, a drum group, teepee teachings, food and bingo prizes.

Outside of cultural activities there were vendor markets, youth activities, a bouncy castle as well as multiple food truck vendors.

"Come down for a bit every Thursday and just learn about the cultures that we live and work with in the community of Yorkton and support downtown Yorkton."

Next Thursday will feature Ukrainian culture, with the following Thursday featuring Jamaican and Indian culture. The final CultureFest will feature Nigerian and Filipino cultures.
