It is safe to say that without their employees, Yorkton businesses would be unable to do anything at all. As a result, it鈥檚 important to recognize and encourage the many employees that keep those businesses in business. The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce鈥檚 Employee Recognition Event is about rewarding the best employees in town and recognizing their contributions to the local economy.
There were four winners in four categories, an increase from two categories in previous years. The traditional categories were Support and Front Line, won by Lindsay Wolkowski of Budget Blinds of EC Sask and Janet Ostafie of Ramada Yorkton. There were two new categories, Manager 鈥 which was won by David聽 Langley of the Yorkton Regional High School 鈥 and Spirit 鈥 won by Irene Baran of the Salvation Army Thrift Store.
Wolkowski says he鈥檚 very honoured to win the award, and it鈥檚 a pleasure to take home the award. He says that he鈥檚 鈥渧ery fussy鈥 and as a result that means his work is done to a high standard.
鈥淵ou try to make the customer happy, that鈥檚 the main point because that鈥檚 what makes the business stronger.鈥
Langley is excited to win, and says he was surprised to be nominated, let alone win, especially after meeting the other nominees. He says that it鈥檚 his workplace is what聽聽 set him apart from the crowd, as they鈥檙e always busy and meet many people through the events that happen at YRHS.

鈥淲e just do lots and lots and my coworkers are great.鈥
Baran is excited to take home the award, and says it was an honour to be even nominated, let alone win.
鈥淚 was shocked and thrilled... Our customers are wonderful, and if they come inside I try to put a smile on their face, I want them to leave happy.鈥
Ostafie says it鈥檚 incredible to be recognized out of a large field of people for her work.
鈥淚 love what I do, I give it my all every day, and it鈥檚 nice that people recognize that.鈥
Juanita Polegi, Executive Director of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce says it was an outstanding group of nominees overall, with a wide range of people. The goal of the event is to recognize how employees are improving the businesses in Yorkton.
鈥淚t was really great to read about how these people contribute to these businesses.鈥
