The Canadian Federation of University Women/ Yorkton Inc., (CFUW), appeared before the regular meeting of Council Monday seeking to have Sept. 14 proclaimed Canadian Federation of University Women鈥檚 Day in the city.
听
The CFUW 鈥渋s a non-profit, non-partisan organization of women university students in the Yorkton area that is concerned with promoting women鈥檚 equality and education,鈥� detailed material circulated at the meeting.
听
鈥淐FUW/Yorkton Inc. was founded in 1954 and for over six decades has actively participated in public affairs through education, advocacy and action. CFUW/Yorkton Inc. is affiliated with the Provincial, National and International Federation of University Women.
听
鈥淐FUW is a self-funded bilingual organization with members in all provinces of Canada.鈥�
听
Group president Elsie Stechyshyn, told Council the provincial government has already designated the day provincially.
听
Stechyshyn said the CUFW locally is active in supporting a number of efforts including awarding scholarships to:
听
鈥� Grade 12 girls attending post-secondary institutions
听
鈥� A University Entrance Scholarship to a female student attending the Parkland Regional College in Yorkton
听
鈥� A senior Music Student at the Yorkton Music Festival
听
Council was unanimous in supporting the request.
听
On Saturday, September 24, 2016, the Canadian Federation Of University Women/Yorkton Inc. will host a reception at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery, 49 Smith Street East at 9:30 a.m..
