Regina’s Randy Bryden is into the semifinal at the World Senior Men’s Curling Championship.

FREDERICTON -- Regina’s Randy Bryden will be playing for a medal at the World Senior Men’s Curling Championship.

The only question is what colour it will be.

Bryden and his Team Canada foursome of third Troy Robinson, second Russ Bryden and lead Chris Semenchuk found themselves in a bit of a battle in their quarter-final against Germany’s Andy Kapp but emerged with a 6-5 on Friday morning in Fredericton, N.B.

As a result, they’ll take on Finland’s Tomi Rantamaki in the semifinal on Friday evening.

It was a good start for Canada against Germany, as after blanking the first two ends, Bryden was finally able to get things set up in his favour and scored a pair in the third.

Kapp came right back with a solid end of his own in the fourth, though, putting up three to take a 3-2 lead. It was the first time Canada had trailed that late in a game since their opening contest against Belgium last Saturday.

Bryden would respond nicely, though, scoring one in the fifth to tie things up and then stealing three in the sixth to go up 6-3. Kapp would get back a pair in the seventh, but Canada put the hammer to good use in the final end to secure a blank and take the one-point victory.

Finland booked their semifinal spot with a 5-2 victory over Czechia’s David Sik. Rantamaki, like Bryden, is undefeated heading into the semifinal after putting together a 5-0 record in the round robin.

The other quarter-finals saw Scotland’s Tom Brewster take an 8-3 win over Switzerland’s Dieter Wueest and the United States’ Mike Farbelow down Norway’s Even Ugland 6-3.

The semifinals will take place at 4:30 p.m. Saskatchewan time followed by the gold and bronze medal games at 7 a.m. on Saturday.
