Man arrested in Sask. in alleged $110K romance scam

Sunshine Coast RCMP are asking anyone else who may have had fraudulent business dealings with Michael Snow to contact your local police department or Sunshine Coast RCMP.

Michael Snow has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and was released pending an Aug. 13 court appearance in Sechelt Provincial Court.

MAPLE CREEK – A 53-year-old Saskatchewan man has been arrested in connection with a high-profile romance scam that allegedly defrauded a British Columbia woman of $110,000.

Michael Paul Snow, originally from Maple Creek, Sask., was taken into custody on June 24 following an extensive investigation by the Sunshine Coast RCMP in B.C.

The alleged fraud started in June 2023 when a woman reported that a man she met online had swindled her out of a substantial sum after gaining her trust and persuading her to invest in a fake business venture.

Police later identified additional victims linked to Snow’s alleged scheme, leading to a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest. He was eventually tracked down by Maple Creek RCMP. 

Snow has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and was released pending an Aug. 13 court appearance in Sechelt Provincial Court.

Sunshine Coast RCMP are asking anyone else who may have had fraudulent business dealings with Michael Snow to contact your local police department or Sunshine Coast RCMP at (604) 885-2266 and reference file number 2023-3581.
