Weyburn police have busy week; responds to assaults, b&e, mischief

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 81 calls for service for the week of May 12-18.

Notable incidents during the week include:

Break and enter: On May 18, police received a report of a cut fence at a local business, where the theft of copper was attempted. Description of the offender was a lone person wearing a hoodie and backpack, riding a bicycle. The investigation is ongoing.

Assault and aggravated assault: On May 15, at approximately 10:50 p.m., police were notified of an intoxicated male refusing to leave a business. Upon arrival, a female and a male worker were found assaulted, with the male sustaining a serious injury to his leg. He was subsequently transported to hospital by EMS. The accused was an adult male, who was arrested without incident. He will appear in court on a later date on the charges.

Mischief: Police responded to numerous mischief calls over the week, including smashed windows on equipment and vehicles and a report of two youths in a compound tampering with a forklift. The youths in the tampering incident were identified by video. Police remind people that if you see something suspicious, please notify police immediately.

Bylaw: With spring upon us, all residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the City of Weyburn Bylaw 2022-3452 (Property Maintenance and Nuisance Abatement) to ensure yards are in compliance. Yards must be kept clean and clear of garbage, junked vehicles, dismantled machinery, excessive/dead weeds, grass or trees and sharp or dangerous materials.
