Throughout the years, I have come to care less and less about the lives of celebrities, be they Hollywood celebrities or otherwise. At one point, famous people had more influence on me than they needed to, but when we are young, we are busy filling our lives with meaning. As we grow wiser, we are busy stripping away everything from our lives that is not important to us. We find that we have filled our lives with too much meaning and that those extra things to pay attention to become distractions from the lives we truly want to be living.
Most days, I celebrate each heartbeat and every breath I take. Other days, I take it all for granted. I always come around, though, because I am quickly reminded that life is too short!
A good way to focus on what really matters is to show appreciation for those people in our lives who we couldn't imagine living life without.
By celebrating ourselves, our lives, the lives of others and especially the children who will make our future world, we create a smaller, more connected world today.
If only more of us realized how influential we truly are to others! We don't even have to be famous to make a difference in the lives of multitudes.
We have all imagined being famous, but it was probably mostly for the fortune side of it. The sacrifice of fame is tremendous, because one thing you can't escape is your own face.
Would you want to be so famous that you never get a moment alone? I would rather be uninhibited, free to be me, with no observers, critics or hounds other than the voices in my head.
Would the sacrifice be worth it if you knew you had a message to deliver to the world?
Perhaps, but anyone who has seen audition episodes of American Idol would be forced to ask what sort of messages those would-be 'singers' have for us all.
Making one's life noteworthy has less to do with fame and more to do with inner authenticity. The biggest favour we can do for the world is to be ourselves. Nobody else can be you! 'I gotta be me!'
If you know what you are here to do, you're going to shine in your own unique way. If you know you have something to say, but you don't know what it is, it's more important to dig deep and find what it is than to see your name in lights just yet.
I am happy to recognize the actions of people who work behind the scenes in life, making the real changes happen. While so many of us are sitting at home, distracted by false icons of success on their television screens, true successes are being accomplished by those who choose to dedicate themselves to something more.
With modern social media, it seems the new celebrities in my world are the beautiful children of my friends and family, and my child happens to be the star of my own little soapbox universe.
Grandma's brag book has become auntie/cousin/uncle/godparent's brag book as well. We have shifted our entertainment focus from that which everyone is watching to what only a select few are privy. We have innovative ways to connect with the more meaningful aspects of life, to that which we are more resonant. It's easier nowadays than ever before to just cut out the mental clutter. There is no need for commercials, for waiting to rewind or to stand in line in hopes of getting a ticket to a show.
Thanks to this pseudo-media, the glamour of celebrities has worn off and we are all now beyond disillusioned by what was once placed on a pedestal. When our grandparents were young, celebrities were like royalty. Now, it takes very little to become famous, but it takes a lot more than a name to be treated with honour.
One thing I know is that in my universe, I'm royalty indeed. I am the Queen of the Clan McManus and I couldn't imagine believing otherwise.
If only I could make technology and organizational skills my friend, I could even manage to take over my own little world, too. I'll get to it... right after my show's done.
