There’s nothing to beat the summer heat like throwing water at each other.
At times though, a straight up water fight can get a bit boring if you’ve had enough of them. That fact had me on the hunt to find a few more creative ways to throw water at the ones I love.
One cute game I came across was Roll and Splash. Fill a roasting pan with water, have everyone sit in a circle around the pan and grab a dice. Take turns rolling the dice in succession and whoever rolls a dice gets to slap the water. Thus, they get to make a big splash and get everyone else wet. Seems like a good time and it’s great for younger kids to get used to reading a dice quickly.
The next idea is a fun water relay. Split people into groups of two and give each person a red solo cup. Also, set up a bucket of water for each team at one end of the lawn. One team member starts at the bucket and the other goes to the end of the lawn and lays down on their back and holds the cup on their stomach.
The person at the bucket fills their cup, then holds it on the top of their head, runs to their teammate, and then, while keeping their cup touching the top of their head, they need to pour their water into their teammate’s cup. Whoever fills the cup first is the winner!
Water balloon pinatas… need I say more? What’s more fun than beating balloons filled with water with a stick? It’s a pretty easy setup, just fill with water and tie from a high branch or monkey bars on a play structure.
Use a bat or a stick to hit the balloons. As much as we want everyone one to get splashed we’ll obviously need to use some common sense so that people aren’t taking a bat to the head.
With a little effort, there are lots of fun ways to beat the heat in your own backyard this summer.
