I feel like Estevan gets a bad rap at times.
I鈥檓 a bit disappointed by the negativity I hear about our city. Perhaps I鈥檓 lucky that I came from a town of 500 people where we literally never ran out of things to do. I cannot bring to recollection a time or season where I felt I had nothing to do there.
That has likely fostered the mindset and perceptions I have of this city.
I am of the belief that your attitude will determine what is available to you in your city. I am quite confident that even in major cities, there are people who sit at home day after day with 鈥渘othing to do.鈥� Estevan has a lot to offer. I鈥檇 love to give you an inside look at some of it.
The River: The Souris River is a current obsession of mine, pun not intended! I love standup paddle boarding and before that I was an avid kayaker. I have friends who have taken paddle boats and dingies on the river.
Coming from northern Saskatchewan, I am thrilled that I can paddle both up and down this river. You can鈥檛 do that on many rivers as the currents are far too strong. The fact that it鈥檚 three minutes from my front door makes it even better. Every time I go, I pass multiple people fishing on the banks of the river. It鈥檚 a fantastic commodity in our city.
Extracurricular sports clubs : I love that our clubs actually have room for members. There are so many groups to join, and because of our population, you can actually have a significant role in the group or team.
Library, Arts Council, Museum, etc: All of these facilities and organizations do such a great job of offering events, classes and get togethers. There are more offered than I can do in a week.
