I’m not sure what it is but spring weather makes me think of brunches.
Maybe because Mother’s Day is in there or various organizations have spring brunch fundraisers, but either way I’ve got eggs benny on the mind. Breakfast foods are the tall one’s favourite and his idea of a great Saturday morning is being out for breakfast by 8 a.m. My ideal Saturdays don’t start till around 10 a.m. so brunch is a little more my style.
With this fantastic weather I think it’d be really fun to put on a lawn game brunch. It would be a fun start to the weekend to make a plan to meet up at a neighbourhood park for a potluck brunch. Because it’s at a park, eggs benny or other foods that need to be kept hot might not be the best idea.
Asking people to bring fruit platters, croissants, muffins, hard boiled eggs or baked oatmeal would totally work, though, and be pretty low prep beforehand. Oh, and don’t forget bacon – bacon tastes good hot or cold.
And be sure to put someone on plates, cups and cutlery duty, or for a more environmentally friendly option, just ask each family to bring their own dishes that they can take home and wash.
During the brunch at the park, it would great to have some activities to take part in. Children will likely be excited to make use of play structures with their friends or ride their bikes and scooters along the paths. We personally love a good lawn game, and so it would be fun to bring games like croquet, ladder ball, cornhole, Frisbee or Frisbee golf.
Our personal favourite is a game that we don’t see many places called Kubb. It’s basically made up of rectangle blocks of wood set up along each team’s line, and you toss wooden dowel pieces to knock them down. It’s really fun - you should look it up!
With a simple e-vite, you could have a stellar brunch in the works and a fantastic start to your beautiful spring weekend.
