A friend of ours, Jordyn Critchley, posted a fantastic date idea on Instagram over the weekend. It’s a fun activity that has a lot of options for variation.
Her and her husband started by going to every establishment in the city that sold coffee to go and ordered a coffee. If you’re doing it yourself, you could order all black coffees or have them fix them the same at each place.
They then set out Dixie Cups (and I’m assuming labeled the bottoms) and poured the coffees into the non descript cups. After a quick shuffle, they then partook in a blind taste test of the coffees and ranked them by their preferences.
I thought it was such a fun and actually quite useful idea. I’m fairly sold on my favourite to go coffee in the city – so much so that I won’t order from somewhere else. This activity has the potential to open you up to another great product or solidify your favourite.
It would also be a fun idea to try other items you love like French fries, poutine, vanilla ice cream cones or ginger beef.
If you’re up for more of an evening out it would be fun to pick four establishments and order the same thing at each place. Going in it would be helpful to have score cards with criteria that you would rate each on. Possible criteria could be presentation, overall taste, texture, and freshness.
It would be important to beforehand determine if each restaurant had the desired item on the menu. I know right now that some of my favourite options would be sweet potato fries with dip, cheese cake, and chocolate dessert (that leaves room for a variation in the item but it still has to be chocolate.)
If you’re on a date night or out with a group of friends you could technically also taste test which establishment makes the best cocktail of a certain variety.
This may not be a very low cost option for entertainment but it would be a good time.
