Sanity holds strong in Saskatchewan

Scott Moe was asked in Saskatoon after he had won the leadership race about his policy on giving money to Sixties Scoop Survivors as a money-induced apology and he said "No".

Should people be compensated for being taken from their parents when they were either babies or when they were young? I imagine if it happened to me I'd be upset and want money as well.

The issue is money doesn't erase history and the logistics of these types of payouts prove why they are a bad idea.

The Liberals and NDP, of course, have said yes and the result was it cost Canadian taxpayers an exorbitant amount of money that could be better put to use paying off debt or investing in the Canadian economy.

Just flat out saying "No" to me is the first step in a rational approach to helping the Indigenous peoples in this province. The reason being the money that goes into paying people off or money that is funnelled into reserves without any oversight, almost always doesn't do anything to improve the quality of life for Indigenous peoples in Canada.

The first rational step is saying no and the second rational step is building infrastructure on reserves and doing whatever is necessary to get businesses hiring Indigenous peoples near or on the reserves themselves.

Scott Moe has mouthed words no other provincial leader, or federal for that matter, would ever say and I hope for the sake of proving a great many people wrong, that Saskatchewan can not only lead in innovation, job creation, and debt reduction but also in helping the Indigenous peoples in Saskatchewan.

If the opportunity existed for Indigenous peoples to find work and have access to stable employment, it would be wonderful if they took that opportunity. Should they not want those jobs, at least the ruling political party can say they actually tried, instead of just writing cheques and doing photo ops with Indigenous leaders like the current federal government.

Moe, of course, took the tone of many Sask. Party leadership hopefuls that a carbon tax will never happen in Saskatchewan. His re-quoting of Pierre Elliott Trudeau was certainly a nice touch when sending a personal message to Justin Trudeau about the unwillingness this province has to implement a carbon tax.

His pro-business attitude is very aggressive and it must be a massive worry for Alberta Premier Rachel Notley, whose New Democratic Party, when elected, resulted in the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) taking a historic dive with businesses cutting off financial relations with the new NDP Alberta, and looking towards Saskatchewan as a good alternative.

Scott Moe’s views on other social issues like abortion, LGBT+ relations and gay marriage are known, but he takes an amazingly professional attitude towards those issues by not forcing his own beliefs on people who don't agree with him, and he does not make those issues a forefront of his public identity.

He introduces a sort of provincial unity aimed at job creation, stability and allowing a good future for the children of Saskatchewan to exist by not getting addicted to debt.

With the mess that Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta are in, I am surprised more people are not just opting to vote for someone they may not agree with but will make everyone's lives a lot less stressful.

In that reality lays a truth that has been dragging down right-leaning political parties since the dawn of time. Social freedom and economic freedom are one in the same and in the world we live in today, the reality is whichever party supports social freedom while being cruel to the rich is more likely to hold onto power once elected.

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs but politics is about numbers and numerically speaking more and more ridings outside of Saskatchewan in this country care more and more about social freedom as time goes by.

The political left has gotten a free pass on power, and a conservative party that stands for economic freedom and social freedom would devastate left-wing political parties, and then unbounded prosperity would be unlocked and more people could peruse and successfully achieve their happiness.

Whether that will never happen is unknown, but one can hope it will because this country needs employers and low taxes.
