The Saskatchewan Roughriders lost to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-25 in the final Labour Day Classic at the old Mosaic Stadium. The Riders were down 13-0 in the second quarter, but they got a field goal to get back in it at halftime. The Riders came alive in the second half, scoring three touchdowns to tie the game at 25. Late in the game, Saskatchewan had an interception but it was called back because of pass interference. The Bombers went on to win the game on a last second field goal. The Riders’ record is 1-9 and their next game is against the Blue Bombers in the Banjo Bowl.
Other scores from Week 11 were: the B.C Lions got past the Toronto Argonauts 16-13, the Ottawa RedBlacks beat the Montreal Alouettes 19-14, the Calgary Stampeders defeated the Edmonton Eskimos 45-24 and the Hamilton Tiger Cats beat the Toronto Argonauts 49-36.
In the NFL, the New England Patriots finished the preseason with a 17-9 loss to the New York Giants. The Patriots will open the regular season against the Arizona Cardinals.
Other preseason scores were: the Washington Redskins beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-13, the Houston Texans defeated the Dallas Cowboys 28-17, and the Seattle Seahawks edged the Oakland Raiders 23-21.
In NCAA Football, the No. 25 Florida Gators beat the University of Massachusetts Minutemen 24-7 in a one-sided game. The Gators record is 1-0 and their next game is against the Kentucky Wild Cats.
Other scores from Week 1 were: the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes hammered the Bowling Green State Falcons 77-10, the Texas A&M Aggies upset the University of California Los Angeles Bruins 31-24 and the Texas Longhorns beat the No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 50-47 in double overtime.
In Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays took one of three games from the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend. The Blue Jays remain in first place.
