To the Editor:
First, I want to congratulate the crew that did the patchwork in front of SGI on Souris Avenue.
A perfectly smooth job. I just wonder if the all city street repairs could be done by this same crew? I would like to thank you for the good job!
Second, I would like to comment on聽all the social media on the oil spill in the North Saskatchewan River. Granted, there are a lot of people suffering from this, with their lives being disrupted with their water conditions, saying 鈥渘o more pipelines 鈥� there will be more leaks鈥�.
But think of the town in Quebec where a whole train load literally exploded, burning up a good part of town, and causing much havoc, personal injuries and death.
Funny thing, but I don鈥檛 recall any social media being wound up about doing away with rail cars hauling oil.
I even hear they are going to build new cars, because some of these are getting old.
How many semi accidents do we hear about? Nothing on a grand scale like a leak in a river, or train wreck in Quebec.
聽But they still effect our environment. Never mentioned on social media!
Something to think about: We have trains, almost two miles long, some traveling up to 40 or 50 mph going through Weyburn. They have a bridge to go over, they have about a mile of businesses along the track. You don鈥檛 want to think about it, but someday there鈥檚 going to be an accident.
It wasn鈥檛 that many years ago it happened near Macoun. No matter how you cut it: pipelines 聽are safest in the聽long haul. If we could finish 鈥楶ipeline East鈥�, we wouldn鈥檛 be importing millions of litres of offshore oil every day while we have oil here and thousands of oil workers out of work!
I, personally, would like to see our people working, instead of importing oil from countries that don鈥檛 seem to care聽that much about the environment!
